Meet Fabien

This is me!

Born and raised in Dunkirk in front of the North Sea, leisure sailing was part of my childhood (Hobie Cat at school, my dad’s 470s, kite surfing). However, it’s the sky that drove my choice to leave the North and study aerospace engineering. After graduating with a double specialisation in fluid dynamics and aircraft design, I worked several years as a flight dynamics and flight control system engineer for an aircraft manufacturer. I guess my love for the sport, coupled with an opportunity to join INEOS Britannia for the 37th America’s Cup, motivated me to make the leap into the sailing industry in 2022, where I can apply aerospace techniques to racing yachts.

As an avid explorer of my surroundings, whether on my bike or with climbing skins under my skis, I eagerly embrace any chance to get on the water and add sea exploration to my repertoire.

Favorite Sailing event

Route du Rhum 2022, some close battles in all the categories sharing the same route, and some impressive record breaking finish time. I had the chance to visit Saint-Malo a week before the start and to be on the water in Pointe-à-Pitre to welcome the first Ultim yachts. Last but not least, a win by a skipper born in Durkirk in the IMOCA class.

Favorite technical book

Fluides et Solides (Emmanuel de Langre), presenting, through the use of dimensional analysis, how to build simple yet quite accurate models of interactions between a object in a fluid.

Go-to working music
